Love First: Stories worth telling

Stories worth telling
Love First is a storytelling platform with a mission: to help people find their true story and lead happier, healthier, and more holistic lives.
Stories help us relate and connect to each other through a process called
neural coupling. But the digital age has disrupted this ancient biological process: we think we're more connected, but feel lonelier than ever.
Love First combines research and storytelling to help people grow, overcome challenges, and build community. It's a compass for the 21st century.
The unrealized potential of
Stories are the cornerstone of our civilization; we passed on knowledge and wisdom from generation to generation through stories, and over the course of thousands of years and billions of stories, we built the society we have today.
But knowledge sharing and
neural coupling—building empathy through brain synchronization—are not the only valuable benefits of storytelling. When we tell a true story of our own lives, one wherein we honestly and vulnerably reflect on our past in order to learn and grow, telling the story leads to tremendous personal growth, understanding of the self, and clarity for what truly matters to us in life.
For as long as I've had a dream in life, I've wanted to change the world with stories. But when I started writing short stories and learned how to make websites to publish them on, I wound up getting a little… derailed.
I became an engineer, then a designer, then an entrepreneur, and while I garnered success and helped bring positive change to the tech industry, my dream of inspiring people through stories lingered. When my life then took a turn for the worse, I returned to my dream, and found Love First.
In Love First I've found not just my next chapter in life, combining my love for story with my experience in technology; I also found a solution to something much greater than myself.
What is love?
(Baby, don't hurt me.)
Love is creating space to live, discover, and grow. As we can only love others as much as we can love ourselves, Love First starts by being honest, vulnerable, and loving towards the self, to let us build emotional bridges with others from a strong foundation.
When we engage and interact with the world, we do so through a certain lens. Sometimes that lens is one of anger or fear, insecurity or greed. But when we act through the lens of love, we are more creative, form stronger bonds, and feel elevated in our emotions and sensations.
Love is the connection that makes us feel most human and alive.
A model for life,
Love First offers holistic, research-driven training and tools, using stories to share important life lessons in ways that encourage personal growth, in-person connecting with others, and local community building.
The Moth meets “social self-help," with a multi-media approach and a dash of comedy.
This specific, mission-driven focus is unique because unlike with online communities on other platforms, Love First fosters building stronger bonds with people in meatspace, too.
A multi-media approach:
website, book, podcast, and scalable events
It all begins with a
storytelling platform, publishing stories and articles that establish the framework and illustrate by way of example. Next, collecting them into a book, and opening up to other people's Love First stories. Then, a podcast wherein my co-host and I read our stories, discuss them, and bring on guests to read theirs. Lastly, potluck brunch events centered around storytelling, serving local communities.
The framework will be refined into an
online training program, as well as a series of workshops. Future expansions can include a YouTube channel, software and applications, and taking the methodology to other fields and areas.
But it all starts simple: with stories.
“We're all stories, in the end.
Just make it a good one.”
— Doctor Who
It began with an idea: that
acting through love, first, was the simplest condensation of a larger philosophy that could inspire people to be their best selves, live their most loving and holistic lives, and enjoy greater happiness and success—and that, together, we would be building a better society.
In the months of practicing consciously and intentionally acting though love, first, it has never failed me. That’s why I’m excited to share the details of what this framework is, how it works, and what it can offer the world.
